Backup Capabilities
From continuous automatic backups to ransomware rollback, AXIS CloudSync protects your data against every type of loss event.
Backups run automatically in the background whenever files change. You can also trigger an on-demand backup at any time from the admin console or desktop client. No schedules to configure — protection is always on.
Restore any file or folder to its exact state at any point in its history. Choose a specific date and time and AXIS CloudSync restores the file exactly as it was — including metadata, permissions, and folder structure.
Every version of every file is retained for the duration of your plan's retention period. Browse version history directly in the web portal or desktop client, preview any version, and restore with one click.
Files deleted by users are retained in a recoverable state for your plan's retention period. Admins can restore deleted files on behalf of users from the admin console — even if the user has emptied their trash.
If ransomware encrypts your files, AXIS CloudSync can roll back your entire file system to a clean point-in-time snapshot taken before the attack. Recover thousands of files in minutes without paying a ransom.
Use the Snapshot Recovery tool to identify exactly when malware first appeared in your file system and restore all affected files to their pre-infection state. Works even if malware has spread across multiple folders.
Back up your Windows file server shares to the cloud automatically. Restore individual files, folders, or the entire server to any point in time — to the same server or a different machine.
Restore a backup to a different machine by installing the AXIS CloudSync agent and selecting the backup to restore. Files sync automatically to the new machine as if they were always there.
The admin console shows the backup status of every device in real time. Configure alerts to notify administrators if a device has not backed up within a specified time window — catch gaps before they become disasters.
Ransomware attacks encrypt your files and demand payment for the decryption key. With AXIS CloudSync's Ransomware Rollback, you never have to pay. Roll back your entire file system to a clean snapshot taken before the attack — recovering thousands of files in minutes.
The average ransomware recovery cost is $1.85 million — including downtime, ransom payment, and remediation. AXIS CloudSync's rollback feature eliminates that cost entirely by restoring from a clean backup.
Recovery Process
Identify the Incident
Use the audit log or Snapshot Recovery tool to identify when the ransomware attack or data loss event occurred and which files were affected.
Select a Recovery Point
Choose a point-in-time snapshot from before the incident. AXIS CloudSync shows you exactly what your file system looked like at that moment.
Initiate the Rollback
Click Rollback in the admin console. AXIS CloudSync begins restoring all affected files to their pre-incident state simultaneously.
Verify & Resume
Review the restored files in the web portal. Once verified, users can resume normal work. The entire process typically takes minutes, not hours.
Understanding RTO & RPO
Your Recovery Time Objective (RTO) is how long you can afford to be down. Your Recovery Point Objective (RPO) is how much data you can afford to lose. AXIS CloudSync is designed to minimize both.
With continuous backup on file change and point-in-time restore, your RPO approaches zero. With snapshot-based rollback that restores thousands of files in minutes, your RTO is measured in minutes rather than hours or days.

Minutes
Snapshot rollback restores thousands of files simultaneously. Most recoveries complete in under 30 minutes.
RPO
Near-Zero
Continuous backup triggers on every file save. You lose at most the work done since the last save.

HIPAA Contingency Plan Requirement
HIPAA's Contingency Plan standard (45 CFR 164.308(a)(7)) requires covered entities to have a data backup plan, disaster recovery plan, and emergency mode operation plan. AXIS CloudSync's backup and restore features directly satisfy these requirements. Review the HIPAA Compliance Overview for full configuration guidance.
