When to Pause Sync
The AXIS CloudSync desktop agent runs continuously in the background, keeping your local files in sync with the cloud. Pausing sync is useful in several situations:
- You are on a metered or slow connection and want to conserve bandwidth.
- You are about to board a flight or disconnect from the internet and want to work in isolation.
- You are performing a large local file operation (bulk rename, reorganization) and don't want partial changes to sync.
- You are troubleshooting a sync conflict and need to stop new changes from propagating.
Note
Pause Sync on Windows
On Windows, the AXIS CloudSync icon is located in the system tray in the lower-right corner of the taskbar. If you don't see it, click the up arrow (^) to expand hidden icons.
- 1Click the AXIS CloudSync icon in the system tray (lower-right corner of the taskbar).
- 2In the menu that appears, click Pause Sync.
- 3A checkmark will appear next to Pause Sync, confirming that syncing is paused.
- 4The AXIS CloudSync icon may change to indicate the paused state.
Tip
Pause Sync on Mac
On Mac, the AXIS CloudSync icon is located in the menu bar in the upper-right corner of the screen.
- 1Click the AXIS CloudSync icon in the menu bar (upper-right corner of the screen).
- 2In the dropdown menu, click Pause Sync.
- 3A checkmark will appear next to Pause Sync, confirming that syncing is paused.
Resuming Sync
Sync remains paused until you explicitly resume it. AXIS CloudSync will not automatically resume after a set time.
- 1Click the AXIS CloudSync icon in the system tray (Windows) or menu bar (Mac).
- 2Click Pause Sync again to uncheck it.
- 3The checkmark will disappear and syncing will resume immediately.
- 4Any changes made while sync was paused will begin uploading and downloading automatically.
Important
Working Offline
When sync is paused (or when you have no internet connection), you can still access and edit any files that have already been synced to your local AXIS CloudSync folder. Changes you make will be queued and automatically uploaded the next time sync is active and an internet connection is available.
- Files already in your local sync folder are fully accessible offline.
- New files added to your local folder while offline will sync automatically when reconnected.
- Files that exist only in the cloud (not yet downloaded) will not be accessible offline.
- Use Selective Sync to ensure the folders you need offline are always downloaded locally.
