System Requirements

Before installing AXIS CloudSync, verify that your devices meet the minimum requirements. AXIS CloudSync runs on Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android, and is accessible from any modern web browser.

Windows Desktop Client

ComponentRequirement
Operating SystemWindows 10 (64-bit) or later; Windows Server 2016 or later
Processor1.4 GHz or faster, 64-bit
RAM2 GB minimum (4 GB recommended)
Disk Space500 MB for installation; additional space for synced files
Internet ConnectionBroadband recommended; minimum 1 Mbps upload
.NET Framework.NET Framework 4.7.2 or later

Tip

For best performance on Windows, ensure your sync folder is located on an NTFS-formatted drive. FAT32 and exFAT drives may cause issues with file metadata and long file names.

Mac Desktop Client

ComponentRequirement
Operating SystemmacOS 11 (Big Sur) or later
ProcessorIntel Core i3 or Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3)
RAM2 GB minimum (4 GB recommended)
Disk Space500 MB for installation; additional space for synced files
Internet ConnectionBroadband recommended; minimum 1 Mbps upload

Note

AXIS CloudSync is a universal binary and runs natively on both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs. No Rosetta 2 translation is required on M-series Macs.

Mobile Apps

PlatformRequirement
iOSiOS 15 or later; iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
AndroidAndroid 8.0 (Oreo) or later
Storage50 MB for the app; additional space for downloaded files
Internet ConnectionWi-Fi or cellular data (4G LTE or better recommended)

Important

For HIPAA compliance, all mobile devices must have full-disk encryption enabled and use a mobile device management (MDM) solution. See the HIPAA Endpoint Requirements section below.

Web Portal

The AXIS CloudSync web portal works in any modern web browser. No plugins or extensions are required.

BrowserMinimum Version
Google ChromeVersion 90 or later (recommended)
Mozilla FirefoxVersion 88 or later
Microsoft EdgeVersion 90 or later (Chromium-based)
Apple SafariVersion 14 or later
Internet ExplorerNot supported

Tip

For the best experience, use the latest version of Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge. Older browser versions may not support all web portal features.

Network Requirements

  • Outbound HTTPS (port 443): Required for all communication between AXIS CloudSync clients and the cloud.
  • Outbound port 80: Used for initial connection and certificate validation.
  • LAN Sync ports (TCP + UDP): Required only if LAN Sync is enabled. Contact support for specific port numbers.
  • Firewall rules: Allow outbound connections to *.axiscloudsync.com and *.axcient.com.
  • Proxy servers: AXIS CloudSync supports HTTP proxies. Configure proxy settings in the desktop client's Properties dialog.
  • Bandwidth: No minimum required, but faster connections result in faster sync. Bandwidth throttling is available for constrained environments.

HIPAA Endpoint Requirements

For organizations handling ePHI, AXIS CloudSync's minimum security baseline requires the following endpoint configurations in addition to the standard system requirements:

  • Desktops and laptops: The filesystem used to store synced files must use at-rest encryption that is HIPAA compliant. Controls must be in place to audit all local access to ePHI.
  • Mobile devices: Full-disk encryption must be enabled. An MDM solution must be in place to preserve access records for ePHI. The AXIS CloudSync app must be configured to require a passcode on access or after a reasonable idle timeout. The setting to erase data after 10 failed passcode attempts must be enabled.
  • Passwords: All user accounts must use strong, unique passwords.
  • Two-factor authentication: Must be enabled and enforced for all users in HIPAA-covered organizations.

Important

These endpoint requirements are in addition to -- not a replacement for -- your organization's own HIPAA policies and procedures. See the Security Baseline Guidelines for the complete list of required configurations.
