Windows Desktop Client
| Component | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Operating System | Windows 10 (64-bit) or later; Windows Server 2016 or later |
| Processor | 1.4 GHz or faster, 64-bit |
| RAM | 2 GB minimum (4 GB recommended) |
| Disk Space | 500 MB for installation; additional space for synced files |
| Internet Connection | Broadband recommended; minimum 1 Mbps upload |
| .NET Framework | .NET Framework 4.7.2 or later |
Tip
For best performance on Windows, ensure your sync folder is located on an NTFS-formatted drive. FAT32 and exFAT drives may cause issues with file metadata and long file names.
Mac Desktop Client
| Component | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Operating System | macOS 11 (Big Sur) or later |
| Processor | Intel Core i3 or Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3) |
| RAM | 2 GB minimum (4 GB recommended) |
| Disk Space | 500 MB for installation; additional space for synced files |
| Internet Connection | Broadband recommended; minimum 1 Mbps upload |
Note
AXIS CloudSync is a universal binary and runs natively on both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs. No Rosetta 2 translation is required on M-series Macs.
Mobile Apps
| Platform | Requirement |
|---|---|
| iOS | iOS 15 or later; iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch |
| Android | Android 8.0 (Oreo) or later |
| Storage | 50 MB for the app; additional space for downloaded files |
| Internet Connection | Wi-Fi or cellular data (4G LTE or better recommended) |
Important
For HIPAA compliance, all mobile devices must have full-disk encryption enabled and use a mobile device management (MDM) solution. See the HIPAA Endpoint Requirements section below.
Web Portal
The AXIS CloudSync web portal works in any modern web browser. No plugins or extensions are required.
| Browser | Minimum Version |
|---|---|
| Google Chrome | Version 90 or later (recommended) |
| Mozilla Firefox | Version 88 or later |
| Microsoft Edge | Version 90 or later (Chromium-based) |
| Apple Safari | Version 14 or later |
| Internet Explorer | Not supported |
Tip
For the best experience, use the latest version of Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge. Older browser versions may not support all web portal features.
Network Requirements
- Outbound HTTPS (port 443): Required for all communication between AXIS CloudSync clients and the cloud.
- Outbound port 80: Used for initial connection and certificate validation.
- LAN Sync ports (TCP + UDP): Required only if LAN Sync is enabled. Contact support for specific port numbers.
- Firewall rules: Allow outbound connections to
*.axiscloudsync.comand*.axcient.com. - Proxy servers: AXIS CloudSync supports HTTP proxies. Configure proxy settings in the desktop client's Properties dialog.
- Bandwidth: No minimum required, but faster connections result in faster sync. Bandwidth throttling is available for constrained environments.
HIPAA Endpoint Requirements
For organizations handling ePHI, AXIS CloudSync's minimum security baseline requires the following endpoint configurations in addition to the standard system requirements:
- Desktops and laptops: The filesystem used to store synced files must use at-rest encryption that is HIPAA compliant. Controls must be in place to audit all local access to ePHI.
- Mobile devices: Full-disk encryption must be enabled. An MDM solution must be in place to preserve access records for ePHI. The AXIS CloudSync app must be configured to require a passcode on access or after a reasonable idle timeout. The setting to erase data after 10 failed passcode attempts must be enabled.
- Passwords: All user accounts must use strong, unique passwords.
- Two-factor authentication: Must be enabled and enforced for all users in HIPAA-covered organizations.
Important
These endpoint requirements are in addition to -- not a replacement for -- your organization's own HIPAA policies and procedures. See the Security Baseline Guidelines for the complete list of required configurations.
